There are many existing resources in the Denton community for musicians and artists to utilize. You'll find many of them listed below. These resources have been gathered by the community. Mental and Physical Health Resources

Texas Woman's University Counseling & Family Therapy Clinic

The TWU Counseling and Family Therapy Clinic, housed within the Department of Family Sciences in the Human Development Building (HDB), provides low cost counseling for adults through family, couple, groups, and individual services.  We also offer play therapy for children ages 3 – 10 and creative arts therapy for adolescents and adults.  The Clinic staff consists of graduate students from two disciplines, Family Therapy and Counseling and Development, who are being trained to deliver therapy to assist clients resolve a variety of issues.

Health Services of North Texas

Health Services of North Texas, Inc. (HSNT) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing excellent medical care for the entire family, from newborns to grandparents, including prenatal care and counseling services, as well as chronic and infectious disease care management.

Denton County Public Health

Provide preventive public health services to the residents of Denton County. Services are available to residents of Denton County; most services have eligibility requirements. Eligibility for most clinical services is based on income, resources, residency, and household composition. Please call our office to schedule an eligibility screening appointment. Offering: Dental Services, Immunization Clinic, Primary Care, STI Testing Services, TB Services, WIC, and Women’s Health Services. (Clinic Locations in Denton and Lewisville)

Denton County Friends of the family (DCFOF)

Mission at Denton County Friends of the Family (DCFOF) is to provide compassionate, comprehensive services to those impacted by rape, sexual abuse, and domestic violence, while partnering with community to promote safety, hope, healing, justice, and prevention.

Denton County x United Way Denton - CredibleMind

Free self-paced mental health resources. CredibleMind is a digital platform that provides self-care resources reviewed by professionals to help you navigate things like anxiety, depression, and life's basic stresses. A variety of articles, videos, podcasts, and more are available to suit different learning styles. Available in English and Spanish, it's free, confidential, and available 24/7.

Mental Health Crisis Hotline (800) 762-0157

Denton County MHMR provides a crisis hotline service accredited by the American Association of Suicidology (AAS). Hotline staff provides information, support, intake appointments, intervention, and referrals to callers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Texas Health Financial Assistance

Texas Health is a faith-based, nonprofit health care system dedicated to its mission of improving the health of the people in the communities it serves. As such, it maintains a policy to provide care for individuals in need of financial assistance. Generally, if your income is less than or equal to 250% of the federal poverty guidelines you may receive some financial assistance from Texas Health. Our Financial Assistance Policy may also allow for help with your bill if your income is over 250% of the Federal Poverty Guideline. This help is based on annual income, family size and balance of your Texas Health bills. The amount of help you receive will be determined by reviewing income, assets, and other resources.


Food and Housing Resources

Denton Housing Authority (DHA)

The Denton Housing Authority (DHA) was formed in 1970 to address the housing needs of low-income families in the city of Denton. DHA owns and/or operates over 3,000 affordable housing units at eleven locations throughout the City of Denton, and has another 1,200 units of workforce and market rate housing under construction.  Additionally, the agency administers more than 1,953 Housing Choice Vouchers (HCV) throughout Denton County. DHA has also funded local agencies through the use of non-federal funds to further its mission toward self-sufficiency for its clients and other low income families in the community.

Our Daily Bread Together with Monsignor King Outreach Center

Our Daily Bread feeds, shelters, and cares for the homeless and at-risk in our community while maintaining the dignity of their guests and offering opportunities for a new start. In addition to offering a community kitchen and shelter, they offer various services in Wellness & Support and Income & Employment. Check their website for more information.

Denton Community Food Center

Since 1974, the Food Center has had as its mission to provide emergency food assistance from a central community storehouse to needy families and individuals in the City of Denton and Northern Denton County struggling with hunger insecurity.

Denton Affordable Housing Corporation

DAHC leases affordable rental units for low to moderate income households.


Transportation Resources

Go-Zone on Demand Rideshare Service, A-Train, Connect Bus, and Regional Bus (DCTA)

Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) offers mobility options to the general public in the greater Denton and Lewisville area. These services include local bus service in Denton, rideshare on-demand service in Lewisville and Highland Village, University of North Texas (UNT) Campus Shuttles and a 21-mile commuter rail service connecting passengers to Dallas County. Additionally, we provide demand response/paratransit service in Denton, Highland Village and Lewisville and a commuter vanpool service for those living or working in Denton County. Access ADA and Non-ADA, Senior Paratransit

DCTA works diligently to provide and maintain universal accessibility measures for people with reduced mobility and contribute to the full autonomy of people with disabilities so all can have equal access to public transit. The agency has various services and programs to achieve this, including Access paratransit in Denton, Lewisville and Highland Village (available for ADA and non-ADA customers), Frisco Demand Response service for residents of Frisco, and Collin County Rides for residents of Allen and Fairview.

Span Transportation Denton County

Span operates as the Designated Rural Transportation Provider in Denton County. We serve the residents of Denton County, by appointment, who live outside of the Denton/Lewisville corridor.


Senior Care, Disability and Child/Youth Resources

Span Transportation & Meals on Wheels of Denton County

Span/Meals on Wheels of Denton County enables people to live as fully and independently as possible by providing nutrition, transportation, and social services to older people, people with disabilities, veterans, and the public.

Lovepacs Denton

Lovepacs helps food insecure children in our community from going hungry over school holiday breaks.

LEAD-UP: Lifelong Exercise for Adults in Denton

For more than 10 years, LEAD-UP (Lifelong Exercise for Adults in Denton - A University Program) at Texas Woman's has assisted aging adults with making changes to their exercise regimens in hopes of improving overall quality of life. LEAD-UP participants have the opportunity to train at TWU’s Denton campus, free of charge, with student staff in both weight-room and aquatic settings. 

Denton Senior Center

Denton Senior Center is a 19,430-square-foot facility with a state-of-the-art fitness room, woodshop, game room, library, and several multipurpose rooms. It is home to Aletha's Craft Store, a shop to purchase handmade items crafted by local seniors, where each purchase gives back to support the Parks Foundation. The center serves as a gathering place for adults, age 50 and older, to enjoy daily SPAN lunches and fellowship, monthly socials and seminars, frequent trips, and special events.

Outreach Denton

Nonprofit organization committed to providing mutual support, resources, organizing, advocacy, and fun with the LGBTQ+ community in Denton, Texas.

The Art room Denton

Located in Denton, Texas, The Art Room is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit art studio that provides people who have mental health issues with a safe, creative, and educational space in which to create art. The Art Room offers open studio time, materials, support, and guidance from volunteer mental health professionals and artists at no cost for those who become members of the program. It is a place where people can engage in the creative process, learn about, and produce art.

Denton Public library

The Denton Public Library is a fantastic free city resource with three branches across the city: North Branch, South Branch, and Emily Fowler Library. In addition to the collections of books and media that is typically found in a library, they also offer digital learning resources, the Legacy Lab, the Forge Makerspace, the Seed Library, and a number of classes and events throughout the year.

Greater Denton Arts Council (GDAC)

The Greater Denton Arts Council (GDAC) is a catalyst for creativity, advocacy and collaboration. The Patterson-Appleton Arts Center (PAAC) is GDAC’s home where they celebrate the arts, inspire innovation, and engage community. Providing educational programs, renowned exhibitions in their galleries, a beautiful multi-purpose venue space, and act as tireless advocates for the arts in Denton.


Financial Literacy, Taxes, and Legal Resources

Financial Literacy by Khan Academy

A personalized learning resource for all ages. With practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard, Khan Academy empowers learners to study at their own pace, both in and out of the classroom.

FDIC’s Money Smart

The FDIC Money Smart financial education program can help people of all ages enhance their financial skills and create positive banking relationships. Includes free web based games, podcasts, and guides on money and finance strategies.

UNT Money Coaching Program

Prospective UNT students, or UNT alumni can request a coaching session. Helping them understand their financial situations and explore various options and resources. Our goal is to ensure each student who walks into our office has the tools they need to succeed in the future. They can receive personalized advice, tailored strategies, and essential money skills essential for life during and after UNT.

TWU Money Management Center

The Student Money Management Center (SMMC) provides free programs and services to help you make informed financial decisions. You can schedule a confidential peer-to-peer coaching session with a Maroon Money Mentor who will work with you on a specific need and create an action plan for your financial goals. We also present workshops that cover a variety of financial issues affecting college students, and we provide access to other educational resources that matter to you. Come learn money management skills you can use now and in the future!

Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts

Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts believes that all creatives — regardless of income or background — deserve access to the business knowledge and advice necessary to grow a career in the arts. Our programs are designed to help participants apply sound business practices to protect intellectual property, advance careers, and develop income.
